When Someone dies
If a person dies at home or in a care home

As a third generation family owned funeral directors in the heart of South Cheshire, we pride ourselves on providing bereaved families with the utmost care, compassion and professionalism.

We offer personal and dedicated support to each family that we care for, ensuring all their wishes and needs are catered for to the highest standards.

We are extremely proud of the reputation we have built through Fred, Graham, David & all the team arranging and conducting funerals in their local community, since 1977. This vast experience gained over many years enables us to be confident that our sympathetic and passionate approach will provide the much needed guidance to a family at the time of a bereavement.

If a person dies in hospital
  • If a person dies in hospital, then the hospital Doctor residing over their care
    will confirm death.
  • You will need to speak to the Bereavement team at the hospital regarding
when the medical cause of death certificate will be available, and they will
discuss with you how to proceed with the registration of your loved one’s
    death.
  • You may contact us before the death certificate is ready if you require any
    guidance at this stage.
Unexpected or Sudden Deaths

Most deaths are registered by a relative. In some cases other people may be able to
register, this includes:

  • a person present at the death
  • a person making arrangements with the funeral directors
  • an administrator from the hospital or elderly person’s home.
If a person dies abroad
  • The process may be different depending on whether you’re at home in the UK
when your loved one dies abroad or if you’re with them.
  • If you are in the UK when your loved one dies abroad, you will be contacted
by the UK police or British Consulate. You’ll need to contact The Foreign,Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) if you are informed of the
death by anyone else, e.g. a holiday tour operator, family member, or friend.
  • If you and your loved one are together abroad when they die, the first thing
you will need to do is tell the relevant local authorities.

The British embassy
The High Commission or consulate

These authorities will be able to advise you on your next steps. If you have a holiday rep or you’ve booked through a tour operator, tell them about the death as soon as you can. They may be able to help you contact the right authorities locally.
